Terms of Service
Draft prepared October 28, 2026. Last updated: [DATE]
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use TheLines (the "Service"). The Service is operated by [LEGAL BUSINESS NAME] ("we", "us"). By using the Service or creating an account, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
2. What the Service is
- Pictures from cameras at participating bars, refreshed regularly, with faces automatically blurred.
- Estimates of how many people are at a bar (a "head count") and a "busy level" (Quiet, Social or Busy).
- A directory of bars, including bars that haven't joined and don't have a feed.
- Accounts, hearts (likes), requests for a bar to get a feed, suggestions, and a way for bar owners to ask about hosting a feed.
The Service is informational. It doesn't sell or serve alcohol. [LAWYER: confirm any Nova Scotia rules on alcohol-related advertising or promotion that apply to the Service or to the promotional emails.]
3. Accounts and who can use the Service
- You must be at least [MINIMUM AGE] years old to create an account. [LAWYER: set the minimum age. The age of majority in Nova Scotia is 19.]
- Give us accurate information, and keep your password private. You're responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Some features, such as promotional emails, are only for people who confirm they are 19 or older. Ticking that box is your statement that it's true.
- You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms or is used to cause harm.
4. Pictures, counts and estimates
- Pictures can be old, missing or unavailable. "Camera offline", "No data" and "No feed yet" mean exactly that.
- Head counts and busy levels are estimates and can be wrong. A bar may be busier or quieter than shown.
- Don't rely on the Service for safety, emergency, travel, capacity or legal decisions.
- The blurring of faces is automatic and may miss someone. If you see an unblurred face, or want a picture removed or a feed paused, email [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we'll act promptly.
5. What you agree not to do
- Try to identify people in the pictures, undo or get around the blurring, or combine the pictures with other information to track anyone.
- Record, copy, republish or scrape the pictures or other content from the Service, or use automated tools to collect it. [DECIDE: are people allowed to share a screenshot of a feed? If so, say so here.]
- Use the Service to harass, stalk or target anyone.
- Break or bypass our security, interfere with the Service, or access someone else's account.
- Send spam, unlawful, abusive or misleading content, or other people's personal information.
- Say you speak for a bar when you don't, or pretend to be someone else.
- Use the Service for anything unlawful.
6. Hearts, requests, suggestions and bar owner requests
- Hearts and requests for a feed are signals of interest. We show totals, not who sent them. We may use them to rank bars and decide where to reach out. We don't promise that any bar will join, or that any feature will launch or happen by a certain date.
- You keep the rights to what you send us (such as a suggestion or a note). You give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use it to run and improve the Service and our business, with no payment to you. We may not reply to or act on what you send.
- Please don't include other people's personal information in what you send.
- A "Host a Feed" request only asks for information. It isn't an agreement. Any feed at a bar needs a separate written agreement. [LAWYER: venue agreement.]
7. Bars and other third parties
Bars are independent businesses. Listing a bar, or showing its name, doesn't mean it is affiliated with us, endorses the Service, or has agreed to take part, unless we say so. Bar names are used only to identify them. If you represent a bar and want something changed or removed, contact us at [EMAIL]. We use outside providers to run the Service (for example, for hosting and sign-in), and we're not responsible for their services.
8. Promotional emails
We only send promotional emails to people who have agreed to them, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can unsubscribe at any time.
9. Our content
The Service, its design and our content belong to us or our licensors. Bars' own names and marks belong to them. We give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes under these terms.
10. Availability and changes
We may change, pause or end any part of the Service, including any feed, at any time. We don't guarantee the Service will always be available. Feeds depend on equipment and internet connections at the venues.
11. No promises about the Service
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without promises that it will be accurate, uninterrupted or free of errors. [LAWYER: confirm this wording against Nova Scotia consumer protection law.]
12. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, or decisions you make based on the pictures, counts or estimates. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to [AMOUNT, for example $100]. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit. [LAWYER]
13. Ending your use
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms. The parts of these terms that should continue after that (such as sections 5, 6, 11 and 12) still apply.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version with its date, and for important changes we'll tell you by email or on the site. [LAWYER: confirm how to give notice.] Using the Service after a change means you accept it.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Nova Scotia. [LAWYER: confirm. Add dispute resolution if you want it.]
